Florence LeCraw

Florence LeCraw, MD

Florence was a practicing anesthesiologist for over 35 years. In 2013 she began her transition to a health policy researcher. She is now a full-time adjunct professor at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University (GSU).

Her research focus is patient safety, healthcare worker well-being, and medical liability.  In her role as a professor at GSU, in 2017 she began to educate policymakers about the benefits of the patient safety program, CRP, and other evidence-based policies so policymakers can make more informed and better decisions.

As a physician, she advocates for evidence-based healthcare policies.

Due to her teams’ successes, she now teaches researchers how to effectively communicate with policy makers to advance evidence-based policies. She organized workshops to teach communication skills for the American Society of Health Economists and the Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management’s annual meetings and for faculty at GSU.

She and her coauthors wrote a paper published in the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management entitled “How U.S. Teams Advanced Communication and Resolution Program Adoption at local, state, and National Levels.” The paper describes how eight teams were successful in their endeavor to get CPR implemented and why two teams believed they failed.
