Salvador Gullo Neto, MD, PhD

I am a physician, graduated from PUCRS in Brazil in 1996. Starting my professional journey in 1997, I completed a residency in general surgery and organ transplantation, focusing on kidney, and pancreas. My first decade was dedicated to patient care and academia, leading the transplant team at Hospital São Lucas of PUCRS in Porto Alegre and serving as a professor at the PUCRS School of Medicine. I actively participated in over 300 kidney transplants and 78 pancreas transplants, achieving remarkable results. As a professor, I taught operative techniques and conducted extensive clinical research, earning me Master and PhD titles in Medicine.

In 2008, I transitioned to healthcare management, becoming the Chief Medical Officer Assistant at the same hospital. Responsibilities included maintaining relationships with the medical staff and overseeing Hospital São Lucas of PUCRS operations.

In 2013, I implemented the patient safety office, following the Brazilian national patient safety program. Discovering the significant impact of adverse events on hospital mortality rates, I dedicated myself to improving patient safety. This led to my immersion in patient safety and the publication of a book titled "Patient Safety – The True Healthcare Revolution."

Between 2016 and 2019, I directed Unimed Porto Alegre, managing a service provider network for over 600,000 clients. We introduced negotiations based on value, linking safety and healthcare quality to payments, achieving substantial clinical and economic results, solidifying Unimed Porto Alegre's leadership in the Brazilian private healthcare market.

In 2019, inspired by healthcare technologies, I founded SAFETY4ME, a platform to teach patients how they can protect themselves from harm during medical treatment. Currently, it serves hospitals, health insurance providers, and clinics in Brazil. I moved to Carlsbad, California, pursued a post-doctorate visit at SDSU, and collaborated with organizations like PSMF and APSF, where I’m coordinating a patient engagement working group.

During the last 10 years of my career, I had the opportunity to work as a consultant for many pharma companies, including Novartis, Bayer, Sandoz and Artiva. As a Board-Certified Medical Affairs Specialist, I bring to the pharma world my expertise in patient safety, value-based healthcare, and medical affairs.
