Jill Sawyer is a dedicated patient safety advocate, currently working in Patient Safety Technology with RLDatix, where she helps ensure safer healthcare for patients, staff, families, and healthcare organizations. She navigated the post-acute healthcare landscape during the COVID-19 pandemic as a caregiver from afar when her father moved from assisted living to skilled nursing facilities and experienced patient harm on multiple occasions until losing his battle against COVID-19. Jill gained a deep understanding of the complexities of healthcare, particularly in long-term care settings, and the risks faced by the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
Before her formal involvement in the healthcare technology and safety sector, Jill and her family experienced the difficulties of navigating healthcare systems without insider knowledge, witnessing firsthand the detrimental effects of communication breakdowns, foundational patient safety errors, and staffing issues. This personal experience fueled her passion for advocating for patients who lack a voice, driving her commitment to ensuring that healthcare organizations embrace empathic, comprehensive, and systematic approaches to patient harm, particularly through the CANDOR framework.
Jill champions patient safety by promoting transparent, principled approaches that prevent harm, support affected families, and help hardwire the patient’s voice into software solutions. She is the proud mother of a daughter, Logan, and lives outside Indianapolis, IN.
